Other long-read sequencing applications (ONT)

Besides standard long-read sequencing services using ONT platforms, the JMF-team is highly interested in supporting you in the development of new methods, workflows and applications relying on ONT sequencing.

The JMF owns and runs several MinION and a PromethION 2 long-read sequencers. While still a relatively new sequencing method, Nanopore-based long-read sequencing can aid to answer a multitude of scientific questions not addressable with conventional Illumina-based short-read sequencing technology. Our team member Dr. Joana Seneca in an expert in long-read sequencing application development.

Currently we are working on establishing or developing following ONT-based workflows:

  • Long-read amplicon sequencing at ASV-level resolution
  • Direct rRNA sequencing for cross-kingdom activity capture
  • Nucleotide-analogue incorporation detection for DNA/RNA synthesis (i.e. activity) detection.

For a consultation meeting on early-access to these methods in development, please contact us directly at info.jmf@univie.ac.at.

If you have other ONT-based methods ideas and would like to discuss collaboration, please contact us directly at info.jmf@univie.ac.at.

We also currently support these ONT research applications as standard service:

  • bacterial and archaeal isolate genome sequencing (including high-molecular weight DNA extraction)
  • eukaryote genome sequencing (including high-molecular weight DNA extraction)
  • metagenomics (soil, sediment, wastewater, stool)
